ERLANGER, Ky. — In northern Kentucky, growing Miami-based company FEAM Areo opened its second and largest hangar at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

What You Need To Know

  • FEAM Aero is opening its largest hangar yet at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport

  • As CVG’s cargo operation grows, the airport requires more support infrastructure to buttress the industry’s expanded footprint

  • The hangar opening will create 250 more jobs in the state

  • Some jobs include aircraft mechanics and technicians, ground support equipment mechanics, administrative personnel and management positions

FEAM Aero opened its $45 million dollar hangar facility Thursday, March 28, after breaking ground on the facility in Nov. 2022.

The FEAM Aero CEO Fred Murphy says that the company expanded to meet business demand.

“The customers had more capacity than we could handle in the first facility, so it just became the demand and that then drove the decision to build another one,” he said.

The 150,000 square foot hangar can house three wide-bodied jets at a single time. FEAM’s first facility could only hold one. Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., attended the event and spoke about how this hangar will create more job opportunity for Kentucky residents.

“This billion-dollar expansion is creating 250 full-time jobs. How about that? That’s on top of 300 today. Already in employ,” Beshear said.

FEAM AREO also partnered with Epic Flight Academy to launch a new mechanic school at the airport. Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport CEO Candance McGraw says this program will boost the economy and allow people to learn. “Somebody who has, frankly, zero skills in the in the field can go into that school and 18 months later come out and be an aircraft mechanic,” she said.

FEAM AREO staff say that this hanger is just the beginning of a long partnership with the airport and the Bluegrass State.
