FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved over $1.1 million in funding to the Kentucky Department of Education to restore the Knott County Area Technology Center.
The technology center sustained heavy damage in the July 2022 floods in Eastern Kentucky, with flood waters coming in through the doors and windows. Standing water remained in the facilities for about 10 days.
In a news release from the Kentucky Department of Emergency Management, the agency said KDE will use department resources and contractors to restore the facilities and its contents. It will also replace the contents of the administrative offices, the automotive shop, the building and apartment maintenance shop, a business classroom, a carpentry shop, a health science classroom, the IT classroom and janitorial supply.
Funding for the public assistance project comes from the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. Federal funding will cover 75% of the costs, with the remaining 25% coming from other sources.
