“Our focus has always been to try to create homeownership for African Americans to close that gap of homeownership here in the community," Dunlap said.

There's a huge shortage of affordable housing in many cities, and Louisville is no different, Dunlap said.

The Housing Needs Assessment, which was released in 2019, found Louisville needs more than 31,000 new units of affordable housing to meet the demand among the city’s lowest-income residents. But that's why Rebound Inc. aims to acquire vacant and abandoned properties, putting them back to good use.

"We also do new construction, so we build from [the] ground up and make those housing opportunities available for low-to-moderate-income families," Dunlap said.

The organization's goal is making homeownership accessible for all, Dunlap said.

"We really do focus on the individuals [and] all those things that they're going to need to make them successful in being able to not only get into the home, but to stay in the home," Dunlap said. "That's why it's vitally important for organizations like Rebound ... [to] really focus on communities and neighborhoods.”

This is along with increasing community development and neighborhood revitalization.

“We're actually creating and adding to the fabric of the city, and we really, really take pride in doing that," Dunlap said.

Dunlap added he hopes people see the dream of homeownership is possible.

Rebound Inc. has grown and acquired a new space for its headquarters, at 1628 W. Market St.
