LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Kentucky Derby Festival, in partnership with PNC Bank, announced a free Tour de Lou training program for cyclists.
Produced by the Louisville Bicycle Club, the six-week program returns this year to help participants get ready for the Tour de Lou cycling event on April 14, 2024. Training kicks off on Feb. 25 and registration is now open on the KDF website.
“Cyclists of all experience levels can benefit from the free PNC Tour de Lou Training Program,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival president & CEO. “Thanks to the Louisville Bicycle Club, you’ll learn valuable tips to keep you safe on the road and be in cycling shape just in time for spring.”
The training program features six rides and offers participants training tips, including hand signals, rules of the road and nutrition information. All training rides happen at noon on Sundays from Feb. 25 through April 7, with rides increasing by five miles every couple of weeks.
Rides will begin at the parking lot at the corner of Witherspoon and Floyd Streets. Riders will need a bicycle and a helmet.
The KDF said the first 250 participants to register for the training program will receive a free training t-shirt.
The Tour de Lou training program will follow this schedule:
- Feb. 25 — 10-mile training ride
- March 3 — 15-mile training ride
- March 10 — 15-mile training ride
- March 17 — 20-mile training ride
- March 24 — 20-mile training ride
- April 7 — 25-mile training ride
This is the 11th year for the Tour de Lou ride. Registration for the ride is also on the KDF website. The event features three separate cycling distances (20 miles, 35 miles and 62.1 miles), along with a virtual ride option.
