FRANKFORT, Ky. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the Kentucky National Guard $1,925,814 in federal funding for its help with the July 2022 floods in eastern Kentucky.
Severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides caused widespread flooding, posing a threat to the public’s health and safety. In response, the Kentucky National Guard completed search and rescue and points of distribution (POD) support activities by request of Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM).
According to FEMA, Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act authorizes funding for this Public Assistance (PA) project. PA funds reimburse eligible applicants to assist with the cost of debris removal, emergency protective measures and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities such as buildings and roads. Applicants work with FEMA to develop the scope of work and project worksheets.
In the PA program, FEMA provides grants to state, tribal and local governments, along with certain private nonprofit organizations, to respond to and recover from disasters and emergencies.
The federal share for this PA project is 100% of the eligible costs, FEMA said.
