LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With 100 days until Kentucky Derby 150, Churchill Downs has opened submissions for the 2024 Kentucky Oaks Survivors Parade on Friday, May 3.
This year’s Survivors Parade will honor 150 breast and ovarian cancer survivors and fighters. Participants chosen to walk in the parade receive tickets to attend the 150th Kentucky Oaks on Friday, May 3.
Those who have overcome or are battling a breast or ovarian cancer diagnosis who have never taken part in the Oaks Survivors Parade can submit their story for consideration on the parade website. Submissions are open until Tuesday, Feb. 20.
Those who wish to nominate a potential participant for consideration should share the submission link directly with the candidate so that they can submit their own information.
This will be the 16th Survivors Parade, and Churchill Downs will mark the occasion by supporting and recognizing the work of Derby Divas and Horses and Hope. The two organizations work to provide services and care to underserved women across the region who may lack access to breast cancer screenings.
Churchill Downs says the Kentucky Oaks charitable initiative has raised over $1 million to promote breast and ovarian health awareness and life-saving interventions over the past 15 years.
The 2024 Survivors Parade participants will be chosen randomly to ensure equal opportunity and consideration. Winners will be announced Monday, Feb. 26.
In addition to a call for submissions, Churchill Downs encouraged fans to join the effort to raise money to support breast and ovarian health by donating to the Kentucky Oaks charitable partners.
