LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Supporters cut the ribbon on a new wing of Louisville’s kitchen incubator Chef Space, which will allow 12 additional entrepreneurs to launch their own business.

Located on Muhammad Ali Boulevard in the city’s West End, Chef Space opened in 2015 and has launched more than 200 food ventures. Funded by several nonprofits and grants, the 13,000 square feet of kitchen allow culinary entrepreneurs to hone their craft at no cost. 

The expansion was made possible by a $330,000 federal grant secured by former U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky. 

“For far too long, too many West End residents have lacked the opportunity to make their business dreams come true,” said Kevin Smith, president and CEO of nonprofit Community Ventures, which runs the space. 

Chef Space and Kroger also announced five scholarship recipients who will receive a one-year membership in the shared space.

“I love that because that’s another opportunity for me to get to know more business owners and maybe collaborate with them,” said Aaliyah Richmond, who has been a Chef Space member for two years.
