LOUISVILLE, Ky. — All lanes on Interstate 64 are open once again after a five vehicle crash shut down eastbound lanes for much of Wednesday.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes were shut down due to a crash in the area earlier Wednesday morning.
The Louisville Fire Department, responded to a vehicle collision at 5:30 a.m. at the end of the Cochran Hill Tunnel. Five vehicles, including two semi-trucks, a garbage truck and two passenger vehicles, collided with one another on I-64 eastbound, causing all the vehicles to catch on fire.
The driver of the semi-truck suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead on site. The drivers of the garbage truck and passenger vehicles were transported to area hospitals for injuries that LMPD said appeared non-life-threatening. The driver of the second semi-truck was uninjured.
