What You Need To Know

  • The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement is participating in the national five-day Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative

  • The initiative takes place this week, Jan. 8-12, as part of Human Trafficking Prevention Month

  • KSP will document its trafficking awareness efforts throughout the five-day initiative

  • It plans to contribute data to the broader Alliance initiative as part of a larger study

The initiative's purpose, according to KSP, is to educate commercial motor vehicle drivers, motor carriers, law enforcement officers and the public about human trafficking and its warning signs.

In partnership with Truckers Against Trafficking, CVSA is working to distribute wallets, posters and window decals.

"We are committed to using enforcement operations and resources to combat human trafficking," KSP officer Stevie Douglas said in a release. "We aim to raise awareness, educate the public and contribute to the broader efforts in eradicating this appalling crime."

KSP will document its human trafficking awareness and outreach efforts during the five-day initiative, contributing data to the Alliance initiative. According to police, results will be released in summer 2024, which will show the impact of these initiatives in the fight against human trafficking. Results from 2023 can be found here

Along with the initiative, KSP's ongoing commitment to human trafficking awareness also includes its mobile substance abuse trailer. It features informative displays about the dangers involving this crime, Douglas said.

The initiative is part of CVSA's Human Trafficking Prevention Program, which aims to reduce human trafficking in North America through coordinated enforcement and awareness measures in the commercial motor vehicle industry.
