Correction: There was a mathematical error in a previous version of this story. It said $5.09 and instead of $5.04. The error has been corrected. (Dec. 19, 2023)
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — RiverLink has started billing again. The company switched tolling providers in September and put bill statements on hold during the process. Commuters crossing the Kennedy, the Lincoln and the Lewis and Clark bridges connecting Louisville to southern Indiana will notice back-billing occurring.
Tolls are back and it can be a confusing to see charges from a crossing back in September just now appear on accounts.
RiverLink has made some updates to make paying bills an easier process.
Tolls range in prices depending on the type of vehicle crossing. If you have a RiverLink online account and transponder on your passenger vehicle, your toll is $2.52 rather than $5.04.
On top of that, if you are a frequent crosser, meaning 20 round trips to Louisville and back in a billing cycle, you receive a 50% discount.
Customers are now seeing the charges on their account from crossings four months ago. RiverLink is making some online updates to make paying tolls easier and more efficient.
“Early in the week, we will have even more improvements to that landing page. So when people go to that landing page to pay tolls, top and center, they are going to see ‘Here to pay a toll bill.’ This is the information you need, you need your monthly number and you need your license plate number and then hopefully that’s a very quick process there to pay the tolls they owe,” said Mindy Peterson with RiverLink.
RiverLink has noticed a high volume in calls since back-billing started, and encourages customers to pay online if they are able.
They say it’s best to have a pre-paid account to make paying tolls as easy as possible.
Currently, there are two two free options for commuters, the Clark Memorial Bridge connecting Louisville to Jeffersonville, Indiana and the Sherman Minton Bridge connecting Louisville to New Albany, Indiana. The eastbound lanes of the bridge are closed for construction and will reopen later this week.
