LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Cyber Monday is the second most popular day for customers to shop according to the National Retail Federation.

Over 71 million people are expected to make a purchase online on Monday.

What You Need To Know

  •  Cyber Monday is the second most popular day for shopping

  •  Carmichael's Bokstore is a locally owned business in Louisville and saw plenty of online traffic Monday

  •  The bookstore has been in business for 45 years

Sam Miller, the manager of Carmichael’s Bookstore on Frankfort Avenue in Louisville, says a lot of customers stopped by the locally owned business this past weekend.

“We saw a bigger Black Friday than a small business Saturday here, which was kind of surprising, although once we thought about it, knowing Louisville’s a sports loving town and that we had the big game on Saturday that could have affected that people could have planned their shopping differently,” Miller said referring to the Louisville-Kentucky football game.

Miller mentioned the bookstore sees a lot of online traffic starting on Cyber Monday.

“When we woke up this morning and came into work, our dashboard for our website was full. So that’s nice to see that people worship at shopping and clicking. So they were making us on their list too. So we appreciate that. But normally it’s you know, our website is busy on Cyber Monday, but it will get busier as we get closer to the holidays,” he added.

The store doesn’t offer big sales like other large online retailers, but Miller said the store provides community and good customer service.

“It’s a vibe to come in to an independent bookstore you don’t get online. And also the personal service. Like sometimes I joke that we like the neighborhood Cheers, especially like on Sundays, because you have so many Sunday regulars like you to open the door and like, ‘Hey, welcome, how are you? How is your week?’,” Miller said.

Carmichael’s Bookstore is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year and currently has three locations.

The National Retail Federation expects about 164 million people to shop over the five day shopping holiday.
