LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department announced that Officer Brandon Haley, who was shot earlier this month in the line of duty, has been discharged from the hospital.

In a news release, LMPD said Haley would continue to recover at home and will work with home health and outpatient services. 

“The strength and determination he has shown continues to improve as he works through the next phases of recovery,” LMPD said.

Haley was shot in the torso while conducting a traffic stop Sept. 7. The shooting happened at 2:30 a.m. on South 40th Street. Police say the shots came from a home nearby.

Fellow officer Colin Billotto, who responded with Haley, dragged him to safety and rendered first aid.

Haley was taken to University of Louisville Hospital by other officers and was in critical condition.

LMPD questioned five people about the shooting and three were arrested, but none were charged with shooting Haley. Officers received a search warrant to search the house on South 40th and found various illegal drugs and nine guns.

The police department released body camera video of the shooting on Wednesday, Sept. 20. The video has graphic images and language. LMPD continues its investigation and would like anyone with information to share it with them by calling the anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
