HENDERSON, Ky. — Horse racing scheduled Friday at Ellis Park Racing & Gaming has been pushed back to Monday due to oppressive heat in the forecast, Ellis Park officials said Tuesday.
Friday’s entire nine-race card is postponed to Monday and will not be re-drawn, officials said. First post time is slated for 11:45 a.m.
The National Weather Service’s Friday forecast called for temperatures in the high 90s with heat index readings of 105-115 degrees. As of Tuesday afternoon, the excessive heat warning was set to expire at 10 p.m. Friday.
The final three days of the Ellis Park meet will be Saturday-Monday. At this time there are no changes to Saturday-Sunday’s cards and first posts are scheduled at 11:45 a.m.
There will be a mandatory payout in all wagers on Monday including the 20-cent Pick 6 Jackpot which stood at $91,381 prior to Saturday’s card.
Ellis Park was recently acquired by Churchill Downs, Inc. for $79 million.
