LEXINGTON, Ky. — Lexington’s annual Woodland Art Fair took place over the weekend. This yearly event has been around for over 40 years, and is something that the community looks forward to.
Many artists traveled from outside of Lexington to attend the art fair and sell their work. Supporting artists is what organizers hope to do with the event.
“It’s, I think, a really important thing for this community and the artists, that some of them said yesterday (Saturday) they had as many sales yesterday (Saturday) as they would in the whole weekend so we love to hear that and that people are buying art, and supporting local artists and all of the artists in general,” said Amber Luallen, the superintendent of arts and events for Lexington Parks and Recreation.
There was a wide range of art being sold, like pottery, baskets and even cutting boards.
Many artists said that it was a successful event. There were approximately 60,000 people who attended over the two-day period.
“Events like this draw in so many people and there’s so much exposure, people that have never seen or head of you before,” said Derek Downing, who owns Designer Baskets by Derek and was selling his baskets at the event.
“It’s been fantastic,” said Chris LaRue, who co-owns Speckled Rabbit Woodworks and had a booth. “The people have been great. It’s very exciting here.”
There were 190 artists who participated in the Woodland Art Fair. Many of them come from all around the country. 80 of the artists are from Kentucky.
