Javier Santos was among the many students who arrived at UK with a car full of his belongings.

“It really is just like a whole new road ahead of me in life,” said Santos.

Despite the university expecting over 6,000 students to move in, Santos felt that the process went well, even though he was a little overwhelmed with all he had to do.

His mother, Lizett Avila, was there to help and it was a bittersweet moment for her.

“It’s very emotional, but it’s happy tears,” said Avila. “I’m really, really excited for him ‘cause I know he’s gonna do great.”

Santos got the chance to meet Capilouto while taking his belongings to his dorm.

Capilouto says that there is a link between students living on campus and success in school, and he was excited to welcome those moving in.

“We are extremely happy to welcome all these students and their families who join them on move-in,” said Capilouto.

Students will continue to move into their dorms tomorrow. Classes at UK will begin next Monday, Aug. 21.
