LEXINGTON, Ky. — Fayette County Public Schools’ first day of class is just around the corner and another back-to-school event occurred on Sunday.
The Lexington Ravens Youth Football Organization held its first back-to-school rally to support the community’s need for school supplies ahead of the new school year.
Organizers grilled food for those who attended while the children played games, with several playing football.
Many of the kids got to grab a backpack with school supplies during the event.
“We’ve just seen the need for it, you know what I mean?” said Terry Hicks, the director of the Lexington Ravens Youth Football Organization. “We want to get the kids excited about going back to school, so we figured we’d throw a little party, give them some school supplies, take a little burden off of parents getting supplies.”
This was one of several back-to-school events that have occurred in Lexington lately to give away school supplies.
FCPS still has a little over a week left of summer break before school begins on Aug. 16.
