Ronda Laney could be found cooking in their food truck, All Good Stuff, alongside her sister-in-law Cathy Mersch. The cooking has been a fun hobby for the family over the years, but now they’re in a spot to take it on as a profession.

“Empty-nesters, and we work harder now,” Laney explained with a laugh.

Laney and Mersch were making up some good food at the festival. It’s their truck’s first appearance at Bacon, Bourbon and Brew.

The festival has been running since 2015 and is said to be one of the longest-running festivals at Newport Festival Park. Laney and Mersch said it’s a big boon for their business. They even sold out of their signature bacon balls on Saturday.

Laney explained how they make another one of their popular menu items — the pineapple bowl.

“We roast the fresh pineapples and put a bourbon glaze on it that we made up. Then we put cinnamon on it, roast it, and put candied bacon on there!” she said.

Stationed outside the food truck greeting folks is Laney’s husband, Michael. He says it’s been a successful weekend and a successful year learning torun a small business.

“It’s like the weather. It’s temperamental. Sometimes you’ll do decent and sometimes you’ll get a little above expected of course otherwise we wouldn’t be doing it,” he explained.

“It’s a family business, and it’s all homemade,” he added. “People like that.”

Even on a hot day in a cramped space, the whole family seems to be making the best of it.

“It’s a good thing we all get along together after being so cramped up together,” Mersch said.

Newport’s Festival Park will have more food next weekend with the return of Glier’s Goettafest. It’s two weekends celebrating all things Goetta from July 27-30 and Aug. 3-6.
