LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating a pair of shootings involving two young children.

The first occurred Monday evening and was described as a “road rage incident.” According to LMPD, officers responded to Norton Children’s Hospital on a report of a child, age 6, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

“Our preliminary investigation suggests that this violent road range incident started in the area of I-65 Northbound at Outer Loop, where occupants of a vehicle were in an altercation with a group of three motorcyclists traveling northbound. During the altercation, shots rang out,” police said in a news release.

Police said the vehicle and motorcycles continued northbound on I-65 and another altercation occurred on the off ramp at University Boulevard. More shots were fired at the vehicle, striking it several times, wounding a female child occupant.

The driver of the car took the child to Norton Children’s Hospital to receive emergency care.

In the second incident, LMPD responded to St. Mary’s Hospital at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday on what they described as a “walk-in” gunshot wound victim. Upon arrival, LMPD discovered a 3-year-old child suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder/clavicle area. The child was transported to Children’s Hospital downtown in what they said was “serious but stable condition.”

Louisville police said they are interviewing family members and believe the incident occurred close to Cane Run Road near the Greenbelt.

Police are asking for anyone with any information about this shooting to call their anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD or use their online crime tip portal.

The two shootings are unrelated. LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Squad will lead both investigations.
