LOUISVILLE, Ky. — For the second year in a row, downtown Louisville will host CycLouVia on Main Street. Taking place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, Main Street will be shut down to cars from Hancock to 10th Street, allowing locals to take over the streets by walking, cycling, skateboarding or dancing.

The event not only encourages Louisvillians to get out and move, but it is also a way to promote the city’s businesses and arts and cultural attractions.

According to CycLouVia, the event repurposes public streets by temporarily replacing traditional vehicular traffic with pedestrian traffic. Streets become paved parks where people of all ages, abilities and socio-economic backgrounds can come to improve their mental, physical, and emotional health.

Starting in 2012, organizers say CycLOUvia events have attracted tens of thousands of people to various neighborhoods across the city. In addition to being part of the Mayor’s Healthy Hometown Movement, CycLOUvia aims to promote healthy lifestyles, alternative transportation, bike/pedestrian safety and economic development.
