  • Louisville Urban League is helping provide these premier services to students

  • Owners and staff at Kumon must take classes to train for services given to students

Ayisha Hayes-Taylor, owner of Kumon Learning Center, is reading for opening day.

“I believe this is going to change generations of kids who have historically just have not had access to services like this,” said Hayes-Taylor.

Kumon is a premiere education service for students in grades K-12. For the last year and a half, Hayes-Taylor has prepared for this moment.

“To come into this has been a sacrifice for my family, my husband, my kids, but I’m glad that we’re here. We made it!” she said. “And it’s joyous for me and my family, but also I know the impact that this will have on this community and the children that come into the center.”

Services like Kumon typically cost hundreds of dollars. However, Hayes-Taylor has partnered with the Louisville Urban League to offer free intensive tutoring services for JCPS students.

“I tell everyone… they laugh at me, but I feel like Kumon is the Bentley of tutoring and learning centers,” said Hayes-Taylor.

She has put together a dedicated team to help the Louisville community.

“I am so happy for Ayisha and I’m so happy for this center to where it is. I grew up in this area. It’s just an awesome place to be. It’s a very safe place,” said Kimberly Byars from the Kumon Learning Center.

For the last eight years, Hayes-Taylor was a stay at home mom. She has jumped whole-heartedly into this process.

“I had to get my own tutor to pass pre-calculus prerequisites that are required by the franchise, which is smart of them to require their owners and instructors to be able to do the work that we are going to be giving to kids,” said Hayes-Taylor.

She is ready to help Louisville students reach their academic goals.
