LOUISVILLE, Ky. — St. Xavier High School in Louisville has raised over $17,000 for the family of Joshua Barrick, one of the five victims lost in the Old National Bank shooting on April 10.
Senior Class President Teddy Meires is part of a student-led initiative to help the family of Joshua Barrick.
“It hit very close to home. It’s very important for the people here to honor those people,” said Meires.
Students are trading in their shirt and tie uniform for a “Louisville Strong” t-shirt. The shirts are being sold to raise money for the family, and fittingly, they come in St. X green and gold.
“We have many people here who knew the Barrick family, who went to Holy Trinity, myself included, who are parishioners at Holy Trinity as well,” said Meires.
It took just 10 days for students to hit the $17,000 mark for sales.
“It’s been an outpouring of support. We knew we could count on our St. X community, and the Louisville community, but we are just overwhelmed and honored to help the Barrick family,” said school President Paul Colistra.
Although students cannot take away the grief, they hope their donation can be of help in this difficult time.
“Josh Barrick was a Holy Trinity parish and school community member. He was a friend of mine, a friend of my family, and a friend to many at St. X,” said Colistra.
Students and staff said they will continue to help the families impacted by the mass shooting.
The shirts are currently sold out online, but are available at the school's bookstore.
