COVINGTON, Ky. — It might be Thanksgiving, but Parish Kitchen volunteers helped make sure its doors were open at 11:30 a.m., something they do daily. People definitely came in and grabbed a meal. Babs Holbrook was one such individual. She said she was spending her first Thanksgiving at Parish Kitchen.

What You Need To Know

  • Parish Kitchen opens to people daily at 11:30am

  • People can grab a hot meal to sit and eat or take to go

  • The kitchen was open on Thanksgiving

  • They served Thanksgiving staples to make sure no one went without on the holiday

“We’ve been homeless for a little bit and these are times I get to spend with my daughter,” she said.

Holbrook said her tray of food for the day has all the Thanksgiving staples. “Turkey, stuffing, green beans, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie,” she said.

Parish Kitchen Manager James Wendeln explained that there’s been such a need in recent months of people needing a meal, and they want to make sure people stay fed daily. “It makes you feel like you’re doing something for the community,” he said.

Wendeln stressed that you never know what someone in your community may be going through. “Maybe they don’t have a job, maybe they are homeless, maybe they don’t have enough money, on fixed incomes, things like that,” he said.

Parish Kitchen works to open daily to help serve a meal to someone who may be in need. “They’ll come in with friends and sit and talk for a while. Most of them would rather go home and eat, which is fine, but it’s very rewarding to see that you’re at least giving somebody something at least once a day,” he said.
