NEWPORT, Ky. — Organizations and agencies came together Saturday, Nov. 19, for a Holiday Donation Drive. Those from the Northern Kentucky Community Action Committee and Head Start, along with the Kentucky Army National Guard and Newport, Dayton and Fort Thomas police officers were collecting items to help those in need this Christmas.

  •  Items collected included toys, canned goods, and other essentials

  • These will go to low-income families

“Toys for preschoolers, infants and toddlers, we’re collecting formula, food, non-perishables," said Head Start and Early Head Start Health and Safety Coordinator Katie Neuspickel.

It's some of the basic essentials that people may be in need of as we head into the holiday season. Newport Police Department's Captain Paul Kunkel said this is something they've helped be a part of every year since he can remember and is appreciative of the growing community support each year.

“It’s amazing how much stuff and how much kindness is passed out through the community," he said.

Kunkel said he's grateful to see all these officials come together to help fellow northern Kentuckians. It's a chance for police officers to work with the community.

“It’s something I feel is very important for all police departments to do and try to build relations with our community. Especially now," Sgt. Jeffrey Linkugel of the Dayton Police Department said.

It's a chance for community members and these officials to come together to make sure these items get to low-income families for Christmas.

“A lot of low-income children do not have a Christmas so we give that to them," Neuspickel said.
