LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mayor-Elect Craig Greenberg says he’s “all in on public safety.” 

Less than three days removed from an election night victory, Greenberg continues to lie out his goals as he moves into City Hall.

“We wasted no time in getting to work,” Greenberg told reporters Friday.

As Louisville transitions from three-term m\mayor Greg Fischer, the incoming Greenberg has launched a website newdirectionlouisville.com. Website visitors can apply for jobs within the new administration and offer comments and or suggestions to Greenberg and his staff.

“We want everyone in Louisville and across the country to have an opportunity to express their interest in working with our new administration before we make any personnel divisions,” Greenberg said.

Greenberg, a Democrat, defeated Republican challenger Bill Dieruf by 7 points Tuesday night. The Louisville businessman ran a campaign focusing heavily on reducing crime. As Greenberg opened Friday’s news conference, he said he’s “all in on public safety.”

Spectrum News 1 asked what he meant by that.

“We must have the best police department in America, one that is the most trained, the most trusted and the most transparent, that focuses on community policing so we can really work with community leaders to prevent crime from happening,” Greenberg said.

Greenberg says he has yet to speak to Louisville Metro Police Department Chief Erica Shields but plans to do so during this transition period. He did not give a specific time. Greenberg confirmed he has spoken to Fischer and his chief of staff.
