LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Democrat Craig Greenberg will be the next mayor of Louisville. With all precincts reporting, Greenberg received 52% of the vote compared with Republican Bill Dieruf’s 46%. Dieruf eventually called Greenberg to concede.

”Who’s ready to move Louisville in a new direction?" Greenberg said Tuesday night after finding out he would be Louisville’s next mayor.
A day later, and Louisville’s mayor-elect Craig Greenberg is still flying high.
“I’m very excited about the future for Louisville, there’s a lot of work to do but there’s so many people from across the entire city that want to get involved and be a part of the solution and move Louisville in a new direction so it’s been a great day,” Greenberg said.
Greenberg will be just the third mayor since the City of Louisville and Jefferson County merged. The new direction Greenberg says starts with improving public safety in Louisville.
“Adding more mental health services, to invest into communities and people that have been overlooked for our entire lifetime so everyone feels like they have an opportunity to succeed and truly can,” Greenberg said.
Greenberg plans to reduce the amount of crime in the city through policing and improving investments in community programs.
An addition, peace advocate Christopher 2X says is crucial.
“If there is an emphasis on getting into the earliest spaces as it relates to kids and to try and at least encourage them not to follow this destructive pathway, that’s what I’m hoping this new mayor will put a lot of emphasis on and that’s the reason we started this future healers partnership,”Christopher 2X said.
The mayor-elect also plans to focus on several other issues, including affordable housing.
“Were about thirty thousand units short so we need more rental affordable housing across this entire city, near good paying jobs and improve public transportation routes but we also need more affordable home ownership opportunities,” Greenberg said.
Greenberg says he plans to do this by “taking some of the thousands of vacant and abandoned lots that we have throughout our city and give them to the people who will build their own home and create generational wealth for their family,” Greenberg said.
