COVINGTON, Ky. — Jeff Pichotta and others with the Village Theater hosted a benefit concert on Sunday. Pichotta said many people in eastern Kentucky need help.

“I can’t convey to you the levels of sadness, desperation, and each one of those people has an individual story,” Pichotta said.

Pichotta said he’s seen the damage and has personal ties in Breathitt County. “Specifically Lost Creek — the majority of the people in Lost Creek lost everything they had. Their friends and neighbors lost their lives along with some people are still missing that they have yet to find,” he said.

He and others worked to put on a benefit concert on Sunday with raffles and donations being collected as bands performed to entertain people. They were raising money to help those who lost items, their homes and even those who may have lost loved ones as death tolls hit over 30 people taken from the floods. It’s not the first time a benefit concert was put on at this business. Owner Mike Reeder said they also held a concert in the wintertime to help tornado victims in Mayfield recovering from the disastrous tornadoes in Dec. 2021.

“It’s always great to give back. Musicians are always perfectly willing to help out — and we have a great music community around here that really helps,” Reeder said.

Pichotta said it’s been a rough year for Kentucky, and fellow Kentuckians were once again in need.

“The devastation in Kentucky — I just can’t put into words. It’s impossible. Pictures don’t even tell the story,” Pichotta said.
