“We’ll do interviews and everything like that. Sometimes they don’t even show up,” Bowman said.

He said the kitchen staff has definitely battled staffing issues, but overall, they’ve currently got a good staff at this business. Bowman said there are lots of different factors that go into some of the different hiring woes including pay and scheduling.

“Keeping people here is pretty rough with working the weekends, having to work the long hours, everything like that. It gets pretty rough and you gotta understand sometimes you have to work Friday and Saturday nights. Sometimes Sunday mornings,” he said.

One positive Bowman sees is the demand and need for workers isn’t what it was last summer.

“This summer’s a little better. I think people are trying to get back into the groove of things. Some people are still scared of COVID and some people aren’t and I think that helps big time. Right now I think it’s a lot better,” Bowman said.

Bowman said he’s been working at Cock & Bull for years and has worked his way up to kitchen manager. For him, the people he works with keeps him coming back each day.

“It’s kind of like a family atmosphere. It’s fun to work here. I wake up every day and I’m ready to go to work. I have no worries in the world about if something will happen and if something does happen, I know we’ll get through it together,” he said.
