LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thunder Over Louisville returned on Saturday, and along with it came the Kentucky Science Center’s ThunderBlast.
Allison Mills came down with her family from Ohio for Thunder Over Louisville.
She said hanging out at the Kentucky Science Center’s ThunderBlast event was her favorite part.
Mills cut out paper shapes at one of the outdoor setups the Kentucky Science Center offers through ThunderBlast.
“I’m making a rocket to try and get all the way up there—but not get stuck like one did,” she said.
Mills was one of many kids hanging out at the fun exhibits on Saturday.
She’s been to Thunder before—and is back for another year.
Officials with the Kentucky Science Center said it’s definitely a win to put on ThunderBlast again.
“I think my favorite part is just seeing all the families have so much fun. This is our first ThunderBlast in 3 years,” said Amy Parish, the Kentucky Science Center’s communications manager.
The last ThunderBlast before this year’s event took place in 2019.
Parish said it’s been a full team effort to open up the 50,000 square feet inside of the Kentucky Science Center and set up the tons of activities outside.
“We’ve got games like giant Battleship or giant checkers or giant Connect 4. We’ve got a rocket table outside. We have several other fun tent or fort building exhibits outside,” she said.
You can find families getting their creative juices flowing by painting a car prop or taking advantage of some carnival rides.
And, of course, setting up to take advantage of a view along the riverfront.
Mills said she was ready to watch some fun stuff in the sky.
The fireworks began at around 9:30 p.m.—ending Thunder Over Louisville with a bang.
Those at the Kentucky Science Center had a fantastic view thanks to the ThunderBlast event.
Now that Thunder Over Louisville has ended, one of the next big events with the Kentucky Derby Festival takes place Sunday, May 1, as the Pegasus Parade returns.
