LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is in the hospital after he was shot by a Louisville Metro police officer.

The shooting happened at around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the Taylor Berry neighborhood in Louisville.

LMPD responded to a report of a woman being robbed at a home on Paul Avenue. A spokesperson for LMPD said the man took property from the woman and then ran away.

Officers located the man between two houses a few blocks away on Clara Avenue. When the officer tried to detain the man, LMPD says the suspect pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer.

The officer then shot the man.

The man was taken to the hospital, but the LMPD did not provide any updates on his condition.

Kentucky State Police are handling the investigation at this time. The name of the officer involved was not released.
