LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man arrested for shooting at two Louisville Metro Police officers in September 2020 during protests, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and 33 counts of wanton endangerment.

Larynzo Johnson shot officer Robinson Desroches and Maj. Aubrey Gregory, while they were working the Breonna Taylor protest at the intersection of Brook and Broadway. In a release, Commonwealth’s Attorney Thomas Wine said not only did Johnson fire his gun repeatedly at Desroches and Gregory, but that Johnson also fired a loaded handgun at four civilians and 29 other officers.

A protester identified Johnson as the shooter and he was arrested at the Thornton’s on First and Broadway in 2020. Desroches was shot in the stomach and Gregory was shot in the hip. Both men have recovered from their injuries.

Johnson received 13.5 years for each count of assault and five years for each wanton endangerment count. The Commonwealth’s Attorney recommends the charges run concurrent for 13.5 years. Johnson must serve 85% of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
