LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare is putting tighter limits on the number of visitors allowed inside its hospitals.

The hospital system changes it policy Friday, only allowing one visitor per patient now instead of two for most adult patients. Two visitors are still allowed if the patient is a child or if they’re with someone who is giving birth.

Visitors have to be 18 and older unless special permission is granted.

“The primary purpose of the revised policy was to provide as safe an environment as possible to our patients, families and employees by limiting the number of visitors,” Norton Healthcare spokeswoman Maggie Roetker said.

Norton published a different policy Friday morning that said visitors are required to show proof of vaccination, but that was quickly changed.

“As we have for many months, we encourage everyone to get the COVID-19 vaccine, but it is not a requirement of our visitor policy at this time,” Roetker said.
