LOUISVILLE, Ky. —The Kentucky State Fair looks a lot different this year compared to last.
What You Need To Know
- Kentucky State Fair canceled most attractions and events in 2020
- Many of the livestock events are back for 2021
- An Indiana family has returned this year to compete in the open dairy competitions
- The Murphy family is ready to take in the attractions
Many of the events and attractions canceled in 2020 are back this year, including the open livestock competitions.
“This one is friendly. That one is friendly. She’s a little bit pushy, but she’s still friendly," 11-year-old Bella Murphy said as she described the dairy cows her family brought to the fair.
Bella and her younger sister Dixie are here for an entire week and the perks are simple.
“We get to do fun stuff and not be at school," Bella said.
There’s more to it, of course. Their week at the fair doubles as the family vacation, and last year, that didn’t happen.
“We didn’t because of COVID, they didn’t have an open show," mom Ashley Murphy explained.
The entire family drove down from central Indiana— Daleville to be specific.
“It means a lot to us. This is our vacation, but it’s a working vacation, so we get to have some fun while doing what we love," Ashley said.
Open competitions were canceled in 2020, along with entertainment and fair food vendors, but many are back. The Murphy family is ready to take in all those attractions while their children show off their dairy cow knowledge.
