On Monday night, Lynn Family Stadium will serve as a pop up vaccination site during Racing Louisville FC’s second-ever home game. Those who get vaccinated at the game will receive free admission.
“We wanted to sort of incentivize people to come out and get the vaccine. Which is if you make an appointment and get a dose, you get into the game for free and I think for a lot of people it's the first opportunity to see the stadium because we just haven't had tickets on sale,” said Jonathan Lintner, vice president of communications for Racing Louisville/Louisville City.
Racing Louisville will partner with Lexington-based Wild Health to help reach Governor Beshear’s goal of 2.5 million Kentuckians vaccinated. Wild Health received a call from Gov. Beshear’s office asking them to consider sporting events as new venues to vaccinate.
“He felt Racing Louisville FC would be a good place to start and a great partner, and he was right on both accounts,” said Dr. Luke Murray, director of COVID for Wild Health.
According to Racing Louisville FC, Wild Health has hosted 25 similar pop-up vaccination sites across the state. However, this is the first sporting event pop-up to date.
“Obviously where we are trying to go is we want all of the community to get vaccinated because we know what sort of an advantage it will be for our team to play in Lynn Family Stadium once we hopefully get past the 2.5 million threshold and all of the capacity restrictions lift,” Lintner said.
Vaccine appointments will be available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. but if you have already purchased a ticket and still would like to receive a vaccine, organizers have you covered.
“We will set you up with a voucher to get in free to another Racing Louisville game in the future or if you wanted to get into a Louisville City game we could finagle that as well,” Lintner said.
It’s a chance to see a top-tier professional sports team and help Kentucky reach herd immunity.
“Get people who might not consider coming out to see it through this vaccine process, I think it's just a win, win for everybody. That's the goal for us, we want to get a full house this year and get the full experience of Lynn Family Stadium that I think everybody has been waiting for,” Lintner said.
Racing Louisville FC’s record is 0-1-1 going into Monday night's game against the North Carolina Courage. Kick off is at 6 p.m.
