LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear's Team Kentucky Vaccination Challenge is getting a leg up with the help of Racing Louisville FC. The challenge as you know is to get 2.5 million Kentuckians vaccinated so that capacity restrictions can be lifted.
Starting Monday, Lynn Family Stadium will host a vaccination site in conjunction with the team's game against the North Carolina Courage. Lexington-based Wild Health is running the site. It has set up25 similar vaccination sites across Kentucky, but this is the first pop-up site at a sporting event.
“We received a call from Gov. Beshear’s office last week asking us to consider sporting events as new venues to vaccinate,” said Dr. Luke Murray, director of COVID-19 for Wild Health in a statement to Spectrum News 1. “He felt Racing Louisville FC would be a good place to start and a great partner, and he was right on both accounts.”
Any fan who signs up to get vaccinated at the game will receive free admission. Fans who already have tickets but sign up for a shot, will get a voucher for a free game in the future.
The game, just the second-ever home game for the Racing, kicks off at 6 p.m. Vaccine appointments are available from 5-8 p.m. and you can sign up here.
The governor's office says close to 1.7 million Kentuckians have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Racing Louisville FC’s president, Brad Estes said in the statement, “Reaching that goal is meaningful most importantly for our health and wellness, but also in opening up venues like Lynn Family Stadium. We can’t wait to welcome a full house for the first time, hopefully soon.”
An expansion club in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), the world’s top women’s soccer league, Racing continues play next week as part of the Challenge Cup tournament preceding its inaugural regular season starting on or around May 15.
