VILLA HILLS, Ky. — Spectrum News 1 asked Villa Madonna Academy teacher Amy Holtzman what makes high school scholar Elizabeth Acuff special.

Her answer was typical of those who know Acuff, Holtzman said, "Oh my gosh, where to start?"

Acuff is a senior at Villa Madonna Academy in Northern Kentucky and she's a star in the classroom with a 4.2 GPA and is the captain and most valuable player of the school volleyball team.

But what makes her truly special is her commitment to her community.

Acuff has volunteered at the hospital since she was a kid and that only scratches the surface of her charity work.

"But honestly volunteering is like one of the biggest things in my life," she said. "I volunteer at three different locations every week and they're a commitment of seven hours total per week."

Her teacher Holzman added, "She leads the school in service hours. I think that says a lot about her — and not by a little, she leads by a whole lot."

For Acuff, volunteering is something she has to do, she feels everyone can make a difference.

"If we just take a step back and realize that one of the biggest things that is going to help us as a country is starting small and helping others around us, Acuff stated. She continued by saying, "Volunteering isn't just something that makes me feel good, but I know that it impacts other people and I'm hoping that at a certain point in my life I impact enough people that it actually makes a really big difference."

Elizabeth plans to keep on giving back when she graduates; she plans to be a nurse.
