Following a positive COVID-19 test and accompanying contact tracing within the program, the University of Louisville's men's basketball team has paused all team-related activities indefinitely. UofL Vice-President/Director of Athletics Vince Tyra made the announcement Thursday.

This means the Cardinals won't be playing against UNC Greensboro Friday, Dec. 4.

Contact tracing took place among the Cardinals' "Tier 1" individuals, consisting of student-athletes, coaches, team managers, and staff.

“We are adhering to the ACC and university protocols, and will monitor the matter day-to-day,” Tyra said.

The positive test result was discovered during the team's Thursday COVID-19 testing. Testing is conducted three times per week following ACC protocols.

So far this season, Louisville has won its first four games, playing all four in the KFC Yum! Center within seven days. After the now-canceled UNC Greensboro contest, the Cards are scheduled to play Dec. 9 at Wisconsin in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and Dec. 16 against NC State in the KFC Yum! Center. There has been no determination on how the pause in activities will impact those games.

Also, Friday's scheduled 11 a.m. game between Duquesne and Winthrop is canceled.
