LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Fans of the legendary football player and Louisville-native Paul Hornung can watch a stream of his funeral mass this Friday, Nov. 20, at 9:30 a.m. The ceremony, held at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church, will be limited in-person to immediate family and close friends due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Following a lengthy battle with dementia, Hornung, also known as "The Golden Boy," died Nov. 13 at the age of 84

Hornung played college football for Notre Dame, winning the 1956 Heisman Trophy. He remains the only player to win the award in its 85 years while playing for a team with a losing record.

The Hall of Famer went on to play for the Green Bay Packers, becoming their number one pick in 1957. Come the 1960s, Hornung became an all-pro halfback. Green Bay Packer Football Coach Vince Lombardi once called him, “The most versatile man ever to play the game.” 

Fittingly, Hornung is the namesake of the Paul Hornung Award which is presented annually to the most versatile player in major college football.
