“The Derby Festival’s virtual race allows participants to run their own course and finish in their own time,” said Matt Gibson, Kentucky Derby Festival president and CEO. “Our staff doesn’t usually get to participate in the event, and this year we’re even challenging ourselves to log some extra miles.”

The Derby Festival created a toolkit for runners, including everything runners need for a successful race. The toolkit, available online for those who register, includes:

  • Race medal
  • Digital Race certificate
  • Digital Race bib
  • Access within the RaceJoy app to track progress
  • Custom Spotify Playlist
  • Scenic Selfie Stops
  • A “How To” on designing your own race

Those who register have until Sept. 30 to submit their results, after which, the 2020 finisher's medal and race shirt will be shipped to the participants.

“We appreciate the patience and continued support from our runners, our sponsors and the community as we’ve all worked through the changes to this year’s events,” said Gibson. “We look forward to being able to cross the finish line together again soon.”

This year is the annual miniMarathon's 47th year; however, this is the race's first time going virtual.
