  • The center will bring 250 jobs to Northern Kentucky

  • Dollar General is making a $65 million investment

  • Company is also building a facility in Bowling Green

The facility will house Dollar General’s new distribution center that will serve 800 stores in the region.

On Wednesday, the company announced they will invest $65 million in their expansion and 250 jobs.

“This is absolutely a huge win for Walton,” said Mayor Gabe Brown for the City of Walton.

Brown said talks began about five months ago.

“It’s going to bring in some good revenue, for not only the City but for our Independent Walton-Verona School District,” Brown said.

By next January, Dollar General will open its traditional distribution center making it number 18.

Brown said they created a new pilot incentive program to offer Dollar General 25 percent of tax revenue for 10 years with the help of state government and Northern Kentucky Tri-County Economic Development Corporation (Tri-Ed).

One of the many factors that helped finalize the decision for the company was its location.

“I think the first being somewhere that’s going to be easily accessible to our stores and help support our growing store count,” said Crystal Ghassemi, Director of Public Relations at Dollar General Corporation. “Walton was a great opportunity for us to be able to help to continually serve the area stores that we have in Ohio, Kentucky and throughout, if you will, Eastern, Midwest area of the country.”

The $65 million investment will not only bring in 250 jobs but also 50 more jobs directly connected to private fleet positions, training that the company says they will provide.

Dollar General also announced construction will begin in their Fresh Cold storage facility early Fall in Bowling Green.
