LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As schools transition to online learning, the transition to kindergarten is as important as ever. To help new students with their first year, the Louisville Free Public Library is teaming up with Metro United Way and Norton Healthcare to host the Drive-Thru Kindergarten Kickoff next month.

  • Kickoff is set to take place at the South Central Regional Library Aug. 6

The event, scheduled for Aug. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m., invites rising kindergartners and their families to a drive-thru celebration at South Central Regional Library. 

Every upcoming student will receive a number of supplies including a free tote bag, an "I'm Going to Kindergarten" t-shirt, a copy of "Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten," and a JCPS activity book with information for parents, courtesy of Metro United Way. 

While school remains important, establishing good dental habits is important as well. Norton Healthcare will give out free dental packs that include toothbrushes and information on the importance of proper dental care for young children. 

The Library, courtesy of the Library Foundation, will hand out free books for all children.

The event will comply with coronavirus safety guidelines, and participating staff and volunteers will wear masks. The event is a drive-thru so as to minimize contact.
