HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Northern Kentucky University released its plan for returning to campus in an email sent out by the university's president Ashish Vaidya. The plan, titled NKU Moving Forward, says classes will resume Aug. 17 and student housing will be available this fall.
There are a number of guidelines that will be in place, including faical coverings for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. As well, for the days that students, faculty and staff plan to be on-campus, they will be required to self-screen for coronavirus symptoms using the Healthy@NKU app available via NKU's registration system myNKU. Student who live on-campus will self-screen every day.
Classes will be a combination of face-to-face and online/remote elements, and a number of steps will be taken to achieve social distancing. For instance, small classes will be moved to larger classrooms and larges classes will be reduced or held in large rooms.
As well, some classes will be simultaneously offered face-to-face and online/remotely, and some will be designed for a combination of in-person and online participation.
Students will be able to see how specific courses will be offered by July 1 using myNKU. Classes will be sorted into the following four categories:
- in-person: delivered face-to-face at regular meetings with time and location.
- online: delivered completely online with no scheduled meetings.
- hybrid: delivered online and in-person with scheduled in-person meetings at location and time.
- online synchronous: delivered fully online with scheduled online class meetings.
To avoid a spike of infection rates, in-person and hybrid classes, as well as finals week, will move completely online after Thanksgiving break. However, buildings and offices will remain open.
