LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer (D) addressed the city Friday morning following a violent night in downtown Louisville.  What began as a peaceful demonstration about the recent shooting of Breonna Taylor, turned violent after shots were fired.  Seven people were injured, one critically, when crowd members began firing weapons.  Louisville Metro Police say none of their officers fired their weapons.  Police fired teargas into the crowd only after the gunshots were fired.

There is damage to windows, cars, and statues in downtown Louisville at both City Hall and Metro Hall.  The mayor did not have a damage estimate.

Fischer will have another update Friday, but says there are more protests planned for the weekend. LMPD will be ready and while they are not asking for assistance from the National Guard, LMPD is talking with other agencies outside of Metro Louisville for assistance.
