LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Southwest Airlines is set to begin a new nonstop service between Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) come Deccember  17, 2020.

The airline will operate the flight three times a day, each flight using a Boeing 737 with 143 to 175 seats.

"This annoucnement by Southwest is a bright spot for Louisville and SDF," said Dan Mann, executive director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority. "Thanks to the strong community support, Southwest has continued to invest in Louisville in recent years and the fact they are doing so in the midst of this worldwide crisis speaks to the stength of our market."

Southwest now offers nonstop flights to 11 destinations out of Louisville, such as Baltimore, Chicago-Midway, Dallas-Love Field, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Houston-Hobby, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix and Tampa. 

While the flights officially begin this December, travelers can purchase tickets now.

"Recognizing the economic hit that the airline and travel industry faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited that Southwest is committing further to the Louisville market by introducing this new route to Atlanta," said Mayor Greg Fischer. "This route will give travelers flying out of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport another option as they travel to other destinations in December and beyond."
