LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky fans of an Emmy Award-winning children’s TV show will get to see their favorite characters live on stage later this year.
Based on the hit animated preschool series “Bluey,” the Lexington Opera House will host “Bluey’s Big Play: The Stage Show!” Aug. 24 and Aug. 25 for six performances. Presale tickets are available starting Thursday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. with the code “BINGO” before the general on sale begins Friday, Feb. 23 at Ticketmaster.
The shows are:
Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Sunday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Fans will get to see the Heeler family, Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chilli as they embark on their first live show in the U.S. featuring puppetry, live actors and iconic sets. The show is based on an original story by “Bluey” creator Joe Brumm and features new music from “Bluey” composer, Joff Bush.
“After seeing the amazing reaction the show received during its Australia run, we are delighted to bring this standout live theater show to U.S. audiences,” said director Rosemary Myers of Windmill Theatre Co. “We know how much love there is out there for ‘Bluey’ and are thrilled and honored to translate these brilliant characters into the three-dimensional world and to share this special experience with fans throughout America.”
The show is presented by BBC Studios and Andrew Kay in association with Windmill Theatre Co. It enjoyed success in Australia, where it premiered in Brisbane and had 447 performances in 65 venues, including the Sydney Opera House.
“Bluey” first premiered in Australia in Oct. 2018. It has become a worldwide hit since and has won multiple awards.
