Good news for Kentuckians planning last-minute summer road trips: gas prices are continuing to decline in the commonwealth.  


What You Need To Know

  • The average price per gallon in Kentucky for the week of Aug. 12, 2024, is $3.13 

  • That's a five-cent decline from the week of Aug. 5, 2024 ($3.18) and an 11-cent decline from the week of July 29, 2024 ($3.24)

  • Prices are also nearly 40 cents lower compared to this time last year 

  • The national average for a gallon of gas is $3.44 

The average price per gallon for the week of Aug. 12, 2024, is $3.13. That's a five-cent decline from the week of Aug. 5, 2024 ($3.18), an 11-cent decline from the week of July 29, 2024 ($3.24) and 37 cents lower compared to this time last year, when the average price per gallon was $3.50 for the week of Aug. 14, 2023. 

Here are the average prices per gallon of unleaded self-serve gasoline in various cities across the state:

$3.14        Elizabethtown

$3.48        Louisville

$2.91        Owensboro

$3              Paducah

AAA said the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.44. That marks the lowest price for gasoline since the first week of June, along with a nine-cent decrease from a month ago and a 40-cent decrease from a year ago.

Per new data from the Energy Information Administration, AAA added gas demand fell from 9.25 million barrels per day to 8.96 last week while total domestic gasoline stocks rose from 223.8 to 225.1 million barrels. Gas production also increased last week to 10 million barrels per day, and crude oil production hit an all-time high of 13.4 million barrels daily.
