The 18-hole course is near the intersection of River Road and Zorn Avenue, about two miles east of downtown. Construction on the course began in Spring 2022. A news release from the city reports the project costs approximately $50,000.

Avid disc golfer Adam Bates heard about the course opening on Facebook. Bates, along with his friend Rob Turner, then decided to check it out Sunday. “It’s fun, it’s challenging but like in a good way,” Bates said.

With the warmer weather and excitement of a new place to play, Champions Disc Golf Course was fairly busy Sunday.

Still, even with players on nearly every tee box, there were not a lot of holdups.

“Seems like everybody is trying to keep pace and trying to keep the rate of movement standard,” Bates said.

Bates added this was a pretty good way to spend the end of the weekend. He also encourages anyone who’s interested to come try out the sport.

Currently, the course’s third hole is closed because of a nearby hazardous tree.
