JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. — History has been made in Jeffersontown as the city welcomes its first female mayor, Carol Pike.

What You Need To Know

  • Since being founded in the late 1700s, Jeffersontown has only had male mayors

  • This changed Thursday with the inauguration of Carol Pike

  • Pike has served on the city council since 1982

  • This is her 40th year of public service

“No one has done this in 225 years so it’s an accomplishment to be proud of, and we worked hard, we worked really hard to get here,” Carol Pike said after taking her oath of office.

Pike has served on the Jeffersontown city council since the 80s. She credits this tenure as one of her skills to serve the city in the best way possible.

“I know the city backwards and forwards and I feel like I do but I also know that there are some things that I don’t know, and that’s why I’ve got my team in place to help me make the decisions that I am not sure of,” Pike said.

Pike will take on her new position at the beginning of the year and said she plans to start strongly by checking in on all the city’s ongoing projects.

“I wanna meet with my attorney and I want to meet with my police chief, day one”

Her daughter Kim Wiseman says she’s so proud of what her mom has accomplished and the example this historic moment sets for young girls.

“History has been made with this election so I think it gives all of these little girls, that aspire to be in politics, it sets the tone to going forward, so it’s really exciting,” Wiseman said.

Along with Pike, eight members of the Jeffersontown City Council were sworn in Thursday.
