LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) students and staff who aren't fully vaccinated must wear a mask inside district property beginning Monday, July 12, following new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control.

In addition, all students and staff on buses for summer programming must wear masks, despite vaccination status, according to an email from JCPS.

The district said masks are not required while outside on JCPS property.

The mask update will be in place for the next few weeks, JCPS added. The Jefferson County Board of Education will vote July 27 on masks for unvaccinated students and staff for the start of the 2021-22 school year.

"Our concern for our students, our families and our staff has been at the center of every decision we have made connected to COVID-19," said the email. "We have used, and will continue to use, guidance from state and national medical experts about the safest path forward."
