LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentuckians can once again belly-up to the bar as the latest phase of reopening kicks in. 

Air Devil’s Inn, right across from historic Bowman Field is a neighborhood staple. It’s been open with the same name since 1934. 

“It’s really part of our family. We were coming every day to check on it. Every single day we would come over here and check,” co-owner Kristie Shockley told Spectrum News 1 Monday. 

Per the state government’s guidelines bars can only operate at 50 percent capacity which allows Air Devil’s Inn to host no more 40 patrons at one time. There are gaps between stools at the bar and some tables are reserved for no one. 

“We’ve separated things to make that easier,” Shockley said.

 Hand sanitizer is within an arm's reach of anyone.

“I grew up about two blocks from here and I can remember this place from when I was a little kid,” Steve Hill recalls. 

He and his wife Becky have known the tavern owner for more than 20 years. If they have any reservations about the state reopening bars it has nothing to do with the regulars. 

“I kind of worry about having the fair and the Derby where you bring in a lot of people from out of state in.” 

Above the bottles of spirits is a handwritten calendar of upcoming events. Live music is coming back to the Devil's Inn this July.
