OWENSBORO, Ky. — Residents are picking up and making repairs after damaging storms rolled through over the weekend.

What You Need To Know

  • Storms rolled through Kentucky the weekend of March 15-16

  • Champion Ford Mazda had almost every car on its lot damaged by hail

  • Prices could drop on the cars that have been damaged

  • The exact cost of the damage is unknown

Owensboro Mayor Thomas Watson said, “Seems a little spotty. Some areas got hit hard, some did not.”

One of those places was Champion Ford Mazda. Tyler Brubaker has been the owner for over 20 years and was shocked by how much damaged the hail caused.

Brubaker said, “You’ve got dents all over the hood. Small ones, big ones.”

Some of the heavier chunks of hail damaged windows of cars. Buyers wouldn’t reallynotice damage from some angles, but one look at the back and the damage is evident.

Brubaker said, “We’ve got shattered glass. It’s down in the car. Of course, we got damage on top of the car and sides of the car.”

Brubaker says 99% of the cars were damaged by the storm. He wasn’t sure exactly how many vehicles he had on the lot.

Brubaker said, “What we had in inventory on the ground is actually affected. Only the stuff in the showroom or the details department, was safe.”

The cars are in a line that stretched around the building—all waiting to be inspected.

Quenton Ling, a paintless dent repair specialist, started working Tuesday morning and said inspections and fixes could take days.

Ling said, “Hopefully, with the amount of people working here, we’re going to get Owensboro back to where it was. It’s just going to be a long process.”

According to Brubaker, prices could drop on the cars that have been damaged.

The damage costs are undetermined at this time.
